How Is Endoscopy Done?

Endoscopy is a process of seeing inside the body through a unique instrument which is known as an endoscope. An endoscope is an advanced technology that is made up of rare parts. It is highly used by doctors (gastroenterologists and physicians) for diagnosing the problem.

Process of endoscopy:

Before doing endoscopy, it is recommended by doctors that the patient should not eat or drink at least 8 hours before starting the process. An endoscope insertion tube is a flexible plastic tube that is inserted in the patient’s stomach through the mouth for diagnosing the problems till duodenum or if the patient is suffering from the large intestine or related problems, it is inserted from the rectum.

The endoscope insertion tube consists of a tiny camera and light that is used to show the insides of hollow organs onto a monitor’s screen. Fiber optics are used for transmitting the image from the camera to the monitor. This whole process lasts for 20-30 minutes and is usually painless. The patient remains conscious in the whole procedure.

An endoscope is a delicate instrument that is made up of numerous small parts. If these parts get damaged, they may be replaced by new ones.
